Digital Inclusion for Rural Communities project targets Karongi and Nyagatare Districts
Today,on April 4th, 2025, the Internet Society Rwanda Chapter hosted an informational session at the YEGO Center in Karongi District, marking a key milestone in the rollout of its Digital Inclusion for Rural Communities project.
The session brought together 37 youth, selected from a total of 170 applicants, who had successfully passed the first phase of the selection process.
During the session, ISOC Rwanda highlighted the importance of digital inclusion in transforming rural communities, presented an overview of the project’s goals, core components, and expectations, and conducted the final selection of 25 participants who will proceed to the implementation phase.
About the Project
The Digital Inclusion for Rural Communities project is designed to bridge the digital divide and reduce youth unemployment by increasing access to technology and building digital skills in underserved areas.
Key components of the project include:
- Training on community network readiness assessment
- Training on designing and deploying computer networks
- Training digital business
- Establishing Internet Kiosks in rural communities
- Internship opportunities to provide hands-on experience
Through this initiative, participants are empowered to either secure employment in the ICT industry or launch entrepreneurial ventures within their local communities.
This initiative will be implemented in partnership with Resilient Global Technologies, Amatha Technologies, ITMS, and Standards for Sustainability, with funding support from The Internet Society Foundation. Together, these organizations are committed to bringing about lasting change and fostering digital inclusion in rural communities.
Coming Up: Nyagatare Engagement
Following the session in Karongi, the same process will be repeated in Nyagatare District on April 11th, 2025, at the Gashenyi Cell Conference Hall. This session will follow the same structure, with informational presentations and the final selection of participants who will proceed to the implementation phase in Nyagatare.
